Mijas Pueblo and the coastal area of Mijas Costa are known as one of the most beautiful "white villages" in Spain. The largest golf resort in Spain is situated here. These two villages are separated by the highway..
Mijas Pueblo (in the mountains)
This is a very pleasant village with nice shops and well-known for its leather goods. Do not forget to negotiate the price!
You will find a bullring at the Plaza de Toros in the center of the village, . It goes back to 1900. Here are still bullfights taken place during the summer and on Sunday from 18:30h. The arena is unique because of its peculiar shape that is nowhere else found. This typical Spanish spectacle opens with a traditional flamenco show.
The museum of miniatures is the most popular tourist destination for Asian tourists. Created by adventurer and hypnotist, Professor Max. This museum displays more than 360 pieces he has collected during his travels all over the world. Here you can admire very detailed craftsmanship, such as the reproduction of the famous "Last Supper" by Leonardo Da Vinci's cut on a grain of rice.
The Mijas Wine Museum offers wine lovers the opportunity to learn from professional oenologists. Here you can taste wines from all regions of Spain. The wine list includes cava, fine wines, table wines, red wines and roses. Each wine has been linked to a dish with salads, cheeses, meats and typical dishes such as ratatouille tartlets with tuna, baby Habas in Chinese spoons, endive tart with scorpion fish and duck bones with sweet wine of Malaga.
A tourist attraction that you cannot miss!
Historical and Ethnological Museum of Mijas
Located in the old town hall and opened in 1995, it recreates the Mijas of yesterday. Tillage tools, fishing, oil mills, a winery, typical Mijas kitchen, etc. Traveling art collections and local crafts are also discussed. In this museum you will also find a replica of the bedroom where Manuel Cortés Quero, El Topo (the mole) of Mijas was hidden for 30 years.
Mijas Costa
Mijas Costa is at the coast and part of the municipality of Mijas. The term 'Mijas Costa "is used to cover the areas of La Cala de Mijas, Riviera del Sol and Calahonda. Mijas Costa offers relaxing beach life with access to many water sports including jet skiing, waterskiing, wakeboarding, windsurfing and paragliding. The area is also known for world class golf courses, water parks, horse racing and a wide range of excellent dining options.
La Cala de Mijas celebrates its own festivals, with a huge annual fair in July. The village is at time beautifully decorated for a week of festivities, wines, tapas, music and dance.
In between
When you drive from Mijas Costa to Mijas Pueblo, you will see the Hippodrome.
Because of the Costa del Sol climate, races are organised the whole year. Many British horse owners bring their horses to Mijas after the British season.
The Hippodrome is located between El Chaparral Golf and the coast. It offers excellent facilities and is now considered the largest leisure complex on the Costa del Sol.
Every Sunday there is a flea market next to the hippodrome from 9.00 to 14.00h. The market has more than 200 small shops and a wide range of second hand products.
Address: Urbanisacion El Chaparral, POBox 365 29649 Mijas-Costa
Next to the Hippodrome, there is a karting track.
